"Did you buy any of your Christmas presents through catalogs that arrived in the mail? Hi, this is Roger Groh of Groh Asset Management. We've all seen them. They arrive. You look at some of the pages, you see a wonderful gift that you'd like to buy for somebody, you call them up on, typically, their 800 number. You give them your credit card, and that gift then arrives at the home or office of the person that you designate. This is Roger Groh of Groh Asset Management, and today, we're here to talk about LTD Commodities, one of the largest catalog companies in the United States, based outside of Chicago in Aurora, Illinois. Catalog companies typically don't have large showrooms, and therefore, don't have the overhead associated with sales people and large store footprints in expensive areas. Their prices are frequently cheaper than the large retailers would have. Also, at times, their inventory can be smaller and have more unique items or items focused in a specific area. Why? Because they don't have to carry a zillion items of one thing in order to make a profit. They can carry a few, advertise them on their website or directly in the physical catalog, and then sell them to you going forward. Does it work? Yes, it does. It's a time-honored tradition. So the next time one of those catalogs arrives in the mail, look at the cover and see who it came from. See if it says, "LTD."
