"Some women want to know how to gain weight while they're breastfeeding. Usually that's not the case. Women are usually wondering about how they can lose weight just after they've had a baby. But some women, especially if they've had a particularly rough pregnancy with nausea and vomiting may have lost weight while they were pregnant and want to know how they can gain it back. Well, while you're breastfeeding you do burn 500 calories a day just in making milk alone. So you need to add that 500 calories a day back to your diet to make sure that you're even and have enough calories just to make milk. Beyond that you want to add an additional 500 calories if you wanted to gain weight. Make sure that meals and snacks do have some components of high carbohydrate, high protein. things like peanut butter, nuts, cheese, those high calorie foods that can put on weight. Also, drinking protein shakes or eating protein bars can be a good snack that can add calories and help to build weight. Of course every woman should consult her midwife or her obstetrician before she goes on any special diets."
