"Hello. My name is Dr. Carol Clark. I'm a licensed mental health counselor, and sex therapist, here in Miami, Florida. In this clip, we're going to talk about the side effects of the Ortho Evra patch. The Ortho Evra patch, is a patch that is used for contraception. It's put on the skin, attached to the stomach, the back, someplace where it's not going to get a lot of friction, so that it's not going to come off. It uses estrogen to prevent conception, and it is more beneficial than taking pills, because the estrogen is taken in through the skin, directly into the blood stream. So, the side effects are actually less than what you would experience with the pill, which is going to be stroke and heart problems, and nausea, and irregular spotting. Those are all side effects you can expect when you're taking any kind of hormones. However, by using the patch, you're not going to have as much of an impact on the liver and kidneys, as you would by taking a pill. Once again, this is Dr. Carol Clark, in Miami, Florida."
