Many college students are able to obtain health insurance coverage through family members, but they typically have to be 22 years old or younger. This is John Pinelli, financial representative talking to you today about health insurance for college students. Many college students are able to obtain insurance coverage through family members. Now, typically for them to obtain this coverage, they would have to be under the age, they'd have to be twenty-two years old or younger, and they would have to be enrolled in twelve semester units or be considered a full time student in order to obtain it's coverage. So those are two important re...regulations or requirements that are important to consider. Now, some universities may provide you with some basic health coverages. Things like doctor visits if you become sick with like a flu or a cold, some some universities have health centers that will provide you with the care, can give you medications and you're able to at least see a doctor without having to pay a great deal of money. Now these health centers are often provided for, within a part of your tuition, so part of what you're paying in tuition goes to providing you with this health coverage through the health center. So it's important to use these health centers if you have some sort of minor illnesses or sicknesses, or injuries for that matter. Use the health centers if it's available to you as a resource and then if that's not available, make sure that you're covered under your parents plan because in addition to the tens of thousands of dollars you may be in debt with student loans, you don't want to have to tack on another ten or twenty thousand dollars worth of medical bills when you're starting out in the real world, so that's an important thing to remember as well.
