Hi, my name's Dave Andrews. Today I'm going to show you how to scan your computer for viruses. Let's go to our computer and I'm going to show you how to find a free for home use virus scanner called Avast. Just open up your web browser and type in Avast.com. Now Avast has a professional you know commercial product but they also have a free version that you can use if you're just a home user. Highlight download and let's click on programs and under download programs we want to select the Avast for home edition. And when I click on that that's going to download to my computer and install. And you can use it free as long as you give them an email address where they'll send you a registration key. Just click on that download now and go and download. Now I've already got it installed so I'm going to open it up and I have to be an administrator to do so. Now Avast is going to want to give me the capability to scan my entire hard drive for viruses. It also has a built in automatic scanner that will scan files you know, while you're using them like if you're browsing the Internet or opening email. And every time I open it up here, the very first thing it does is it's going to test the memory of the programs that are currently running for viruses. I'm going to go ahead and click stop memory test so I can get in to it and just show you how to scan your hard drive. This is the Avast user interface. To scan my hard drive I'm basically going to want to click the play button right here which will scan the hard drive, but first I have to choose an area that I want to scan. Now to do that I have to open up the for interface and click on start scan. I'm going to select the scan area of local discs. So scan local drive is on, now click play and it's going to start scanning my entire hard drive. My name is Dave Andrews and I've just showed you how to scan your hard drive for viruses.
