Removing Mildew From Fabric

"Hi, I'm Rachel Yatuzis, and I'm going to show you how to remove mildew from fabric. First, you want to try to spot treat the mildew with a stain remover. Just spray it on the material. Work it in really well with a sponge. Really, just like any other stain. The trick with mildew is it may have a funky smell, so after you let this sit for, you know, 10 or 15 minutes, when you're going to run your wash, turn the washing machine on and let it fill up with water and add about two or three cups of vinegar to that water. Don't put the laundry detergent in yet. Throw your clothes in there with the vinegar and water. Turn the washing machine off when the water's, you know, full enough to cover the clothes, and let them sit in there for a couple of hours. This vinegar will take the smell -- the mildew -- out of the clothes and they'll smell, you know, perfect once they go through the wash cycle. After they've sat for a couple of hours, put your laundry detergent in as usual, and let your washing machine go through its cycle as usual. Take your clothes out, pop them in the dryer, and if you throw a couple of dryer sheets in, your clothes will smell excellent and they should be rid of any mildew stains.
