About High-Definition Video Cameras

"Hi. My name is James Flint. I'm a videographer and I'm here to talk to you about high definition video cameras. High definition video cameras are really coming on strong these days. Standard definition is on the way out. It's not obsolete at this point, but it's definitely not as popular as it used to be. A majority of cameras you'll find in an electronics store or a video camera catalog are going to be high definition. What that means -- high definition is you're capturing images in a greater resolution, resolutions up to 1920 by 1080. This means that you're going to have better picture, better picture quality, enhanced color. Some people say it's more of an accurate representation of whatever the camera was filming. If you're someone at home and you have a high definition television, it only makes sense, if you're going to be filming, to get a high definition video camera. That way when you plug your camera into the TV or format your movies on your computer, either way, you're playing them back on your high definition television, you'll see them in high definition. Another thing about high definition cameras is that they shoot in the 16 by 9 format. It's going to have a wider, more rectangular picture and less of the traditional box. Again, this coincides with the new high definition televisions. You'll notice that most of them are wide, rectangular format. This, again, just creates a better cinematic feel. It's just important to know that high definition video is going to capture a better quality, but at the same time, you need to be careful. If your lens is dirty, you've got a smudge on your lens or a little hair on your lens, now that you're shooting in high definition, this is going to show up even more so. It'll be really big in your picture. Again, standard definition is on the way out. High definition is taking over. If you're looking to invest in a new camera, I recommend a high definition video camera. And, like I said, high definition video has a higher image quality and better color, so it's going to look better. It's going to do your computer monitor or high definition television more justice. And so, that's pretty much about high definition video cameras."
