However, you do need to be very cautious with cod liver oil because it can actually have toxic levels of Vitamin A and Vitamin D. Those are both fat soluble vitamins that do have an upper limit of safety because you can't easily excrete them in your urine. Any vitamin that's called a fat soluble vitamin is stored in your fat tissue. So therefore, it's not excreted the way your water soluble vitamins such as Vitamin C or Vitamin B would be, even if you have an excessive amount of them. A lot of time the recommendations on bottles of cod liver oil are on capsules of cod liver oil have such a high dosage that would be very easily get an excessive amount of Vitamin A or Vitamin D. High dosage of these could cause a wide variety of problems; it can cause liver damage, it can cause yellowing of the skin. So you definitely don't want to get excessive amounts. In addition, in smokers or in the elderly, too much Vitamin A can also cause problems with your bones; it can actually increase the risk of fractures. So if you're interested in the Omega 3 benefit of cod liver oil, a better option would be, would be to use some other type of fish oil, perhaps a fish oil that has the use of mackerel or salmon or that type of fish as it's main source of Omega 3. So as far as cod liver oil with lemon, the lemon really doesn't have much additional benefit other than masking the flavor of it. Again, various uses primarily for the Omega 3, some Vitamin A and Vitamin D, but again, it can be very easily toxic-dose. So that's just a little information for you on cod liver oil with lemon juice.
