My name is Christine Marquette and I am a registered and licensed dietitian with Marquette Nutrition and Fitness and I am going to talk to you today about what is Chantex. Chantex is actually a medication that is used to help people stop smoking. It is different from other anti smoking medications in that it does not contain nicotine. The way that Chantex actually works is that it actually binds to receptors in your brain that normally allow nicotine to bind to them. Because of this normally when nicotine binds to these receptors it actually increases levels of Dopamine in the brain which causes temporary sensations of uplifting feelings basically feeling good hormones. When Chantex blocks these receptors it causes a decreased level in Dopamine so if you were to continue smoking you wouldn't actually feel any better from it. You wouldn't feel happier. It wouldn't improve your mood so for this reason Chantex has been very effective at helping people quit smoking. Some of the side effects of Chantex most commonly it can cause nausea, it can also cause constipation, gas, vomiting. More serious side effects, if you had a history of mental health problems, depression, anything like that you need to talk to your doctor ahead of time because Chantex may actually worsen those symptoms. It could cause an increase in depression. You also need to let your doctor know if you have had any withdrawal symptoms prior any nicotine withdrawal if you have tried to quit smoking before because Chantex can also aggravate nicotine withdrawal symptoms causing behavior changes, things like increased agitation, trouble sleeping, strange dreams and usually the dreams are very vivid dreams so definitely talk with your doctor ahead of time if you have had any problems with nicotine withdrawal or again if you have had any mental health conditions because those can be serious side effects related to Chantex.
