My name is Christine Marquette and I'm a registered and licensed dietitian with Marquette Nutrition and Fitness and I'm going to talk to you about the health benefits of Goji Juice. Goji Juice has really gotten popular in the last few years. It comes from the Goji Berry and may also be known as the Wolfe Berry. There is a little bit of controversy as to whether Goji berries and Wolfe berries are truly the same berry or they are different berries. They are both found in Asia. That's where they actually grow. The benefits are because Goji berries actually have a lot of antioxidants. Now whether they are actually more healthy than other berries remains to be seen. There is still a lot of study being conducted but it does have the potential because again it is high in antioxidants to have a variety of health benefits. We already know that the antioxidants in berries such as strawberries, blackberries, raspberries, blueberries have anti cancer properties, they help with the prevention of cancer so it is very likely that Goji berries have this property as well. Some of the early research that has been done shows that another antioxidant called Ziazanthene is very high in Goji berries and this has definitely shown to be a benefit in eye health and can help promote very healthy vision so in this perspective we know that Goji Juice can help promote healthy vision. However, some of the claims that you may see on bottles that it definitely prevents cancer, that it can cure arthritis or high blood pressure or diabetes or all these other health conditions, none of that has actually been proven but again because it is a natural food it comes from a fruit and we know that that fruit does have high levels of antioxidants it definitely can be considered a healthy food and does have a potential to be part of a healthy diet and healthy overall to prevent your risks for developing cancer and it can improve your eye health and your overall vision so from that perspective definitely Goji Juice can be healthy but you do what to be cautious and not expect to be able to for example discontinue your diabetes medication or your blood pressure medication just because you are drinking Goji Juice. You just want to make sure you include it as part of an overall healthy diet but don't rely on it to cure any particular disease.
