My name is Christine Marquette and I'm a registered and licensed dietitian with Marquette Nutrition and Fitness and I'm going to talk to you about the potential side effects of Goji Juice. Goji juice actually comes from the Goji berry or some people refer to it as the wolfe berry so it is a juice that is a fruit juice. It is a naturally occurring juice and today there are not a lot of side effects that have been reported from Goji Juice. There is always the potential that a person could have an allergic reaction to it but then other than that there really have not been a lot of potential side effects reported. There have been no cases reported of liver problems or heart problems or any of those types of things that we typically hear with some herbal medications or herbal teas. One thing to keep in mind with Goji Juice is similar to grapefruit there is the possibility that it can interact with medications and in that case it could cause side effects so if you are taking medication for diabetes or if you are taking blood thinner such as Warfarin or Coumadin then in that case you do want to avoid Goji Juice because there is that potential that it could interact with your medication and cause it to be either ineffective or overly effective. So if you are taking any type of medication it is best to avoid Goji Juice. There is limited research shown that it interacts with them and because that research is limited again it hasn't been studied in all medications so we don't really know exactly how it will interact with some but we do know with Coumadin, Warfarin and diabetes medications that it is best to avoid Goji Juice because it could cause very significant side effects and that it can increase the effectiveness of your medication to an extreme level or it can render your medication useless so in that case you do want to avoid Goji Juice. Otherwise there are not a lot of side effects that are currently reported with Goji Juice.
