"Hello, my name is Dr. Loretta Ciraldo, Board Certified Dermatologist and author of Six Weeks to Sensational Skin. This is about why you can get acne in puberty. And as a Board Certified Dermatologist, I find it fascinating that there's so many changes in so many of our organs with the onset of puberty. And one of the things that's really the most noticeable change in the skin in puberty is that there's a change in our sebum or our oil content at the time of puberty. We have a maturing of our oil glands. They become more active and unfortunately what that means are oftentimes is that, there's a little more build up of debris between the oil and the dead cells which had been shed even in pre-pubescent skin. Now there's kind of a coming together, almost sometimes it could be a little bit of a volcanic interchange of oil and debris within the pores within puberty. What I'm going to highly recommend is for parents and if you are a young person, listening to this, that you start to use good skin care before you have the acne by the ages of eleven and twelve. Cleanse regularly twice a day and hopefully you can minimize any acne of puberty. This is Dr. Loretta Ciraldo."
