"Hello, my name is Dr. Loretta Ciraldo, board certified dermatologist, and author of "Six Weeks to Sensational Skin." This is about how to get rid of severe acne. The very first thing that I'm going to tell you is if you are suffering for from severe acne it really is best treated by a board certified dermatologist, so get yourself an appointment with a good board certified dermatologist and discuss all of your options. One option is that you may be someone who's been on antibiotics, maybe from another dermatologist or from your internist, and your acne's just getting worse and worse. In that case, the dermatologist may decide to take a culture to see if you have what's called gram-negative folliculitis, where possibly, using the broad-spectrum tetracyclines for a period of time has caused some bacterial overgrowth of a different kind of bacteria called gram-negative bacteria. So, number one, think about the possibility asking the dermatologist for a culture. Secondly, we now have something that's almost revolutionized the treatment of severe acne, and this is called Accutane. I'd like you to really research it before you see the dermatologist. Look online about Accutane, and then go in with a lot of questions. And the best of luck to you. This is Dr. Loretta Ciraldo."
