Video Transcript

"Hi. I'm Dr. Carol Clark. I'm a sex therapist and licensed mental health counselor here in Miami, Florida. In this clip, we're going to talk about what is an STD. STD is sexually transmitted disease. And for a disease to be transmitted sexually, it means that vaginal secretions or semen from the penis are being transmitted to another person's blood. And this happens during any kind of sexual activity whether it's penile-vaginal, penile-anal, oral-vaginal, oral-anal. So, any way that some kind of sex fluids are transmitted into another person's bloodstream, that's a sexually transmitted disease. We can prevent this through the use of condoms which form a barrier between the sexual fluids and the bloodstream. Also, keeping your immune system healthy and minimizing the number of sexual partners you have will help prevent the transmission of STDs. Once again, this is Dr. Carol Clark in Miami, Florida."
