"Hey, I'm Ashleigh Gass, strength and conditioning specialist with brilliantathlete.com. What is aerobic training? Aerobic training is a type of training that is done in the presence of oxygen, so it's a type of energy system training. Aerobic is longer duration training typically, as opposed to anaerobic training, which is more high intensity, speed-based work. So for aerobic training, you would go out for a walk. Some of you might be on a program now where you're walking for 20 to 30 minutes a day. That's aerobic training. Some of you might be training for a marathon and going for runs multiple times a week. That is also aerobic training. Another style of aerobic training takes place in the gym, and it's referred to typically as circuit style strength training. And what that means is you would move from one exercise onto another and another and another, so a series of strength exercises done with very little rest in-between exercises, and that'll really, really get your heart rate going. Aerobic exercise is best combined with an overall strength training program as well.
