How to Keep Squirrels Out of a Garden

"Hi I'm Stan DeFreitas, Mr. Green Thumb. We're at Willow Tree Nursery in St. Petersburg, Florida. How do you keep squirrels out of your garden. Well that's a toughie. One thing you may want to do is try to keep everything open, if you've got a lot of acorns and stuff that they like to eat upon, well maybe kind of sweep them up, put them off to some other part of the yard or garden. That might be somewhat of a help. But, you might also think of making sure that you plant things well up above the ground. Squirrels of course will take the course of least resistance. Sometimes you'll find different food sources that they're going to come for. If you're feeding the birds, you're probably feeding the squirrels. Now there are some devices that the birds can land and eat and the squirrels cannot hold on to. You can try some of those things as well. With squirrels in general, if they become a real major problem, you can get a have a heart trap like a box trap and you can actually trap them and take them off, you won't kill them, you'll take them off to the local park and let them re-acclimate there.
