Video Transcript

"This is financial adviser Patrick Munro talking about how to file for Social Security. Social Security is a right of passage for senior Americans when they retire. It's the government program that will pay you an income for the rest of your life based on how much income you contributed to the tax system during your productive years. The first time you can apply for this federal backed benefit is age sixty two and the place that you apply to, to do this is the Social Security Administration office in your community. Make sure you report there with a full set of identification and you'll sit down with a federal officer and he will or she will help you fill out your data pack which will allow you to start receiving your checks. A check will arrive approximately six to eight weeks after it is submitted to the administration for processing and normally it's a direct deposit in to your bank. You know people do not receive the checks in the mail box anymore for obvious reasons, security reasons. This is Patrick Munro, financial adviser talking about how and when to apply for Social Security."
