"Hi, my name is Stetson Lowe, and in this clip, we're going to be talking about how to apply for housing assistance. The first step you would need to do is to look up your local housing authority in your government section of your White Pages. Once you find the housing authority, you want to give them a call. Set up an appointment to go in and ask them any documentation you'll need to bring, such as birth certificate, social security cards, paycheck stubs, photo identification, things like that. Once you've set up your appointment, head on in and sit down with the qualified adviser who'll then calculate 30 percent of your gross take-home income, which is what they will then allow you to pay for rent. Once you've found that out, determine whether your family size and take-home income make you eligible for housing assistance. Once you've done that, you'll fill out the application that they'll provide for you at the Section 8 office or the housing office. Okay. Once you've filled out the application, you can ask them to provide you with a list of housing-qualified properties in your area. Most of these properties fall under Section 8. The next step is to find out which properties fall under the rental certificate program and which ones fall under the rental voucher program. Both of these programs are directed and ran under the Section 8 program. At that point, you'd want to call your landlord...call the different landlords of the homes and/or apartments and set up a walk-through and find the one which suits you the very best."
