"Hi, my name is Stetson Lowe, and in this clip, we're going to be talking about how to apply for a housing voucher or also known as Section 8 housing assistance. The first thing you'll need to do is to look up your local housing authority in the government section of your local phone book. If there's not one in your city, then go to the government section for the county. Once you've found the housing authority, call and make an appointment to go in. Ask them for any documentation you need to bring, such as birth certificates, social security cards, photo identification. Head on in to your appointment, fill out...fill out an application and get it submitted as quickly as possibly. Then, you'll oftentimes have to prepare for a long wait, as there are a lot of people seeking this type of assistance. Some cities are longer than others. Once you've been approved for the Section 8 housing assistance, you'll need to go and find an apartment to rent. That apartment will...or home, whatever the case may be, will need to be Section 8 approved, so it'll have an inspection done on it. If it meets Section 8's rental criteria, then the government or Section 8 will write the landlord a portion of your rental payment every month based on your income and qualifications. So that, in a nutshell, is how to apply for a housing voucher or Section 8."
