Hi, my name is Veronica Baragas with and I'd like to share with you a little bit about running a daycare center. Well first and foremost I have to tell you that it's a very, very rewarding job but lots of work. It can be long hours and depending on whether you're the director or if you're just the business owner, your duties can vary. But some of the key elements to running a daycare center I would say is to be very organized and to keep track of every single thing that you purchase, that you buy, that you come in contact with, every family that's ever interviewed and things like that. One of the things I learned is to just keep track of everything. Bookkeeping is probably the number one thing that can make or break you. Making sure that you keep track of all costs, making sure that you keep track of every single minimum standard that you have to meet. I mean there are so many details into running a daycare center that you cannot afford to overlook anything. So be very detail oriented, organized, punctual and dedicated to your work. I mean I think that if you don't have a genuine love for children and for wanting to do better for a community and to reach out to families, it's going to be a very difficult job. So it's very rewarding but it's a lot of work. So make sure that the day you decide to run a business, the day you decide to open your daycare, get yourself a couple of binders and maybe one for finances, one for your business plan, one for miscellaneous things and just keep track of everything like I said. You can develop your own system, it's going to take time but getting that system down and making sure that you cover every single aspect of your business is key because when you get audited or when it comes to tax time or if you have unexpected expenses, you want to know where you stand, what you have in the bank, what it is that you've done for the year, for the week, for the month, for the day, I mean just be detail oriented and organized I can't stress that enough. But once you get those things down, the reward is unimaginable and it's a good income as well, so definitely just take, have some patience and just grow with your business.
