Getting rid of love handles is best done by increasing cardiovascular workouts to lose the fat before doing oblique exercises to strengthen the underlying muscles. Eliminate love handles, also known as the muffin top, with exercise advice from a gymnastics teacher in this free video on physical fitness.
Hello, my name is Virgina Kelly. And I'm here at Encore Gymnastics. And I am going to teach you how to get rid of your love handles. If you don't know what love handles are, those are the side right here, that hang right over your pants. I fortunately don't really have them, I've got a little bit right there. But you want a nice curve, nothing hanging over. Also known as muffin top. We want to get rid of it, so. When you want to get rid of those love handles, what you want to do is start out with a lot of cardio exercise, because you don't want to just build up the muscles, you want to get rid of some of the fat. So, make sure you have a lot of cardio in your daily workout. You want to do about half an hour of cardio everyday. Your cardio exercise can consist of anything from walking to jogging to running to jumping jacks, jumping rope. Any kind of fitness class. Any cardio, get that heart rate up, get your heart rate going. That's when you're going to really start burning the fat, so you want to make sure that you get rid of the flat, the fat, so that your muscles underneath can start showing. In order to strengthen your muscles, you want to do oblique exercises. That's the muscle that's hiding under those love handles there, are your obliques. So when you work your obliques, there's a lot of exercises that you can do, and I'll show you those in a second. Another set of exercises you could do, are holding onto some dumb bells, standing with your feet shoulder width apart, and just doing little leans to the side. Over and back. It's really important that you keep your hips tucked under. You don't want to be standing like this, because then you're straining your back and you're not working your obliques anymore. So you want to stand up straight, one dumb bell on each side, even weight. Pull to the side, and then stand straight up. It's a pretty straight forward basic exercise so you can build those obliques. And then, a couple of other ways to build obliques. You can do here on the floor. And, any kind of side to side movement or cross movement, that's side to side like this, will build your obliques, as well as just rocking side to side keeping your shoulder blades right off the ground, stretching your arms out and reach for your heel. Side to side swing. You don't want to sit up to far, you don't need it to be a big motion. Your still getting a workout. So, if you are looking to get rid of those love handles, your first step is going to be getting a nice cardio exercise in, half an hour everyday. And then follow that up by strengthening your obliques with some exercises that I just showed you here. And that is how you get rid of those love handles.
