You are considering adopting a child and you have heard the phrasology embryo donation and embryo adoption and you are interested in knowing whether adoption laws apply in these concepts. Hello I'm Robert Todd and I'm here to answer the question does embryo law apply to embryo donation and embryo adoption. Well generally speaking although the laws of all 50 states differ from one another as to adoption and what is contemplated by the adoption, who can be adopted, who can adopt, under what circumstances. Generally adoption laws are limited to placement of children after they are born and generally these laws do not affect embryo donation and embryo adoption. With respect to embryo donation generally embryo donation is more of a concept where the individual donating the embryos is doing just that for the placement as the agency whom the embryo donation is donated sees fit. Embryo adoption is a little more regulated and practices more on the side of more restrictive as to who can adopt an embryo. The best thing to do when dealing in this area because it is a very complex and complicated area of law is to seek the services of a family law specialist who subspecializes in adoption because it is its own unique subspecialty. I'm Robert Todd, thank you for watching.
