Video Transcript

"You and your spouse have decided that the marriage is over and you both desire a divorce. Hello, I'm Robert Todd and I'm here to help answer the question, how to obtain a divorce. Well first of all the law governing divorce is going to vary from state to state and the first thing you want to do is protect your particular laws in the state in which you have lived as man and wife, to see what's involved. Generally speaking there is a residency requirement. That means you have to have lived there as man and wife for a specific period of time, generally as little as six months sometimes no more than one year. Once that is determined most states have self help forms on line or those forms can be obtained at a county in the state. If you look at those forms and you don't have very many issues and you can do the forms yourself, great. That's probably the least expensive way. If you look at those forms and they look too complex and you have many many issues, it is probably worth your while to seek the services of a family law attorney. I'm Robert Todd, and thank you for watching."
