Arachnophobia. One of the most common and probably one of the most serious phobias that exist. The fear of spiders. I'm Janice Creneti. I've been teaching animals science and environmental science for 20 years. And I'm here today to answer the question where do spiders live. Well its probably easier to answer the question where don't spiders live. Spiders are found all over the world. On every continent except Antarctica. And very recently scientists have even discovered deep water spiders living in the cold Antarctic waters. So now they pretty much are every where. Spiders are a fascinating species. Some of the weave webs some of them do not. The primary purpose for a spider to weave its web is to have a place to catch its prey. Now spiders feed by actually taking mouth parts injecting them into the prey that's tangled into the web. They inject an enzyme that basically digests the prey turning it into liquid and then they're able to use mouth parts to suck that liquid back out. Spiders are found in trees. They're found on the ground. They're found in dry areas. They're found in wet areas. They build webs inside people's houses. They build webs inside high trees. They even sometimes bury into the ground. They're one of the most prolific species of invertebrate. Over 40,000 have already been identified. Species of spider. That's amazing. Spiders are fascinating creatures but they're also creatures that you need to be cautious of. If you live in Florida you want to be particularly cautious of the black widow and the brown recluse. Two poisonous spiders that will commonly hide in places inside garage, inside your house, under a wheel barrel, inside a bucket that you haven;t used for a while, anything that you've been using for storage. So when you're walking around these areas always be extra careful to look for those spiders. You don't want to get bitten by either of them and be sent to the hospital. I'm Janice Creneti and this is where do spiders live.
