"You may have recently gone through a separation or divorce where you as a spouse and parent are keeping a minor child and the other spouse or parent is agreeing to paying child support and you want to know how you collect child support. Hello, I'm Robert Todd and I'm here to answer the question, how to collect child support. Well the laws governing child support are going to vary from state to state so you want to familiarize yourself with the laws of your particular state, but more importantly if you can reach an agreement with the other parent that they're going to pay child support, that's a good place to start. But don't stop there. You want to make sure any agreement is reduced to writing and that ultimately that written agreement is the subject of a court order. So that in the event that agreeing spouse or parent stops paying child support you can enforce it. Without an order or judgment, it's going to be very difficult. So, this is something you can do on your own if you know how to fill out the appropriate forms. But if you don't, seek the services of a lawyer that specializes in family law to assist you in drafting the agreement and getting it before a court and obtaining a court order. I'm Robert Todd and thank you for watching."
