Video Transcript

"You may have started a business and you are concerned, after reading the newspaper and watching the news on television and looking at news items on the Internet, that you don't want to be guilty of this thing called sexual discrimination. Hello, I'm Robert Todd, and I'm here to answer the question: What is sex discrimination? Well, sex discrimination basically is the treatment of an individual on the basis of his or her sex without any basis for saying. It can be in employment, it can be in housing, it can be in lending opportunities, and it generally encompasses an entity denying equal opportunity to an individual simply because of that person's sex. It can be as simple as paying men more money for the same job than women are doing, which is a perfect example of sex discrimination, or having the idea that only a certain sex can do a certain job, even though there's no scientific or objective basis for that determination. Again, if you are an employer and you have questions about whether your practices and policies are in violation of sex discrimination laws, you may want to consider the consulting of a lawyer that specializes in this area. I'm Robert Todd, and thank you for watching."
