It uses a cutting head, or bit, the router bit to make the actual cut. It usually has a fix or, or a, this one has a fix platform with adjustable base, so you can adjust the height. This one is just a light weight, portable one I'm going to use for demonstration. It's adjustable in the base height so you can set the depth of your cutting attachment, and by changing cutting tips, different routs, it provides a variety of different services. It can allow you to shape the edge of a board to a specific molding design, cut grooves in a board, notch out corners of boards. The possibility of uses of a router are just limitless, depending on the type of cutting head and what you might be using it for. They use them for carving and crafts, just many different purposes.
