"Hi, I'm Doctor Carol Clark. I'm a sex therapist and licensed mental health counselor here in Miami, Florida. In this clip we're going to talk about permanent birth control options. Some people decide to not have any more children, and rather than use some kind of barrier method, or hormonal control, they make the decision to do a surgical procedure that will result in permanent birth control. For men, this involves a vasectomy, which is the cutting and cauterizing of the vas deferens, which is the tube that leads from the testicles, ultimately to the penis. This prevents the sperm from leaving the testicles, and reaching the penis, although semen is produced on the other side of the cut. And so there will still be ejaculation, the semen just will not contain the sperm. For women, we're talking about a tubal ligation, which is cutting and cauterizing the fallopian tubes which lead from the ovaries to the uterus. And that prevents the egg from reaching the uterus, or ever being fertilized. Both these procedures may be reversed at great cost, and more intense surgery. Once again, this is Doctor Carol Clark from Miami, Florida."
