"Hi, I'm Dr. Carol Clark. I'm a sex therapist and licensed mental health counselor here in Miami, Florida. In this clip, we're going to talk about the effectiveness of various methods of birth control. These methods include abstinence, hormonal, sterilization, barrier methods, and withdrawal, and natural fertility. Most of these are 99 percent effective if used correctly. They fail when people use them incorrectly, so abstinence, of course, is 100 percent effective if followed. Natural fertility methods are between 75 percent and 95 percent effective. Hormonal methods vary from 95 to 99 percent, again, if they're used correctly. And the sterilization is usually 100 percent effective if done correctly, and the instructions are followed following the procedures. The withdrawal method is the least effective and really should not be used. This is Dr. Carol Clark in Miami, Florida."
