"Hi my name is Samir Malik. I'm a tutor for middle school and high school students in the Austin, Texas area. Today we are going to be discussing who invented the ruler and when it was invented and then I'm also going to show you how to use the ruler. The ruler was invented by Mr. William Bedwell in the 16th century. This is what the ruler looks like. As you can see here it has inches on the top section of the ruler and it has centimeters on the other section of the ruler. The ruler is a very handy tool in being able to draw straight lines. We basically place it down and if we are trying to make a line that is five centimeters long we start at the 0 mark and we go all the way to 5 and there we have a line which is five centimeters. So thanks to William Bedwell who invented the ruler in the 16th century today we are able to use it for multiple purposes especially for drawing straight lines."
