Hi, my name is Samir Malik. And I'm a private tutor for Middle school and High school students in the Austin area. Today we're going to be discussing how to find percentages. Now percentages is crucial because it helps us in understanding probability. It helps us in understanding statistics. It helps us in understanding test scores. You know, if you had a test with twenty questions. And you only got five correct. Then you want to know what your percentage was on that particular test. So finding percentages helps us tremendously in our day to day lives. What I wanted to illustrate for you, were some examples. That I can create to help you to find percentages from fractions. So if you like to take a quick look here. I'll show you how those are solved. So for the first example, we're going to have 4 divided by 8. And we realize, to find the percentage of 4 over 8. All we need to do, is divide 4 divided by 8. We know that 8 goes into 4, zero times. We add a zero here with a decimal place. 8 goes into 40, 5 times. 5 times 8 is 40. We're left with a remainder zero. So we have zero point 5 (0.5) which equals to fifty percent. And that's how we're able to find the percentage of 4 over 8. The next example which I'd like to illustrate, is 3 over 4. And we want to know what percent that will equal to. So we go ahead and we do 3 divided by 4. 4 goes into 3, zero times. Then we have, we add a zero. 4 goes into 30, 7 times. 7 times 4 is 28. 30 minus 28 is 2. We bring down a zero. And we have 4 goes into 20, 5 times. 5 times 4 is 20. So we're left with zero. So we have zero point seven five (0.75). Which equals 75 percent. So from this, we're able to understand how to calculate percentages form fractions. Which is one of the most common ways to calculate percentages. And we also see the benefits of calculating percentages. Because we're able to turn a fraction into a percent.
