"Hi I'm Doug Leavy principle agent and owner of Strategic Insurance Services and I'm going to talk to you about how to become a licensed insurance broker. One of the first things you need to realize is that any type of insurance requires a license and a license is required by the state that you work in for example my agency is in Florida so my license is with the state of Florida. Depending on the line of insurance there are different licenses that you need. The licenses once you have them are expected to be kept up to date with continuing education credit. That is really your first step in becoming an agent. After that you are going to be required to get practical experience. I tell people one of the best things to do is to learn basic sales skills in working with people. Interpersonal skills in our business are everything. You need to be able to work with people. One other suggestion would be to look to get an internship or a part time job in an insurance agency. That is a great place for you to start where you are going to learn real world experience of the daily in and out operations of an agency and what is required. My name is Doug Leavy.
