Hi, I'm Laura from youngwritersworkshops.com and I'm going to talk about how to write a biography for kids. Keep in mind that your readers as kids will have a different level of understanding of a person's life. So when you're writing or you're beginning to write a biography for kids, think about what a kid would most enjoy knowing about a person, and keep in mind their level of understanding about a person's life. So you don't want to go in to extremely complicated issues in their lives. Maybe something of the conflicts that they experienced might be something that you need to simplify or leave out. But at the same time make sure that you cover all of the important achievements and events in the person's life. Your first step in writing a biography for kids once you've chosen a topic and have kind of a grasp of the approach, is to create an outline. and again, creating your outline with a kid's point of view in mind. You can write from your outline knowing of course that it will probably change a bit as you're writing and gathering your sources and information. And then I recommend having a kid or two read it so you understand, get a good gage of their understanding and their reactions and with the questions they might have. And then go back and create another draft until you've come up with a biography that's understandable for kids and appealing to them but also does a good job of telling them the person's life story. Some of the biographies you can look to as an examples are Helen Keller who's a very written about figure in children's literature and also Martin Luther King who has inspired children and all people for decades. So those two biographies will be ones that you can look to as examples that are well written and give you a format to follow for your biography. So those are some ideas about how to write a biography for kids.
