"Hi. I'm Laura from youngwritersworkshops.com and today I'm going to talk about how to get government money to write a book. The most important thing you need to know if you're looking for government funding, if you're looking for a grant from the government is that grants.gov is the ultimate place to go look for funding. By taking a look at the grants listed on grants.gov., you'll get a better picture of what some of the opportunities are, what the funding is tied to and this will help you to really understand a little bit more about the grant writing and funding process. If you're looking for funding to write a book, I would begin by looking in, keeping an eye on grants.gov, getting an idea of what's out there. And then also look at some of the agencies such as the NEH and NEA. Those are the National Endowment for Humanities and National Endowments for the Arts. And those organizations are more likely to fund specific artists or work. So that might be one area to look. It's also important for you to know that writing a federal grant is a lot of work. And you'll need to be super vigilant to follow every guideline. Not writing in the format that's specified by the funder is a way to become disqualified for the, in that competition. So be sure if you do find a suitable request for proposals and you answer that request, follow every guideline that is listed to the t and be really careful about that. Also be really aware of deadlines because missing a deadline will disqualify you. So you may have to be very persistent, you may have to work very hard find government money to write a book. But those are some ideas about how to go about it."
