"Hi I'm Laura from Young Writer's Workshops.com and I'm going to talk about the importance of peer reviews. Peer reviews are when a panel of people in the same field review a piece of work such as research or writing or even just a statement. And it is very important and part of the reason for its importance is to create a more reliable sense that when you read something or you hear something that it is actually authentic. And also creates some more prestige for the piece of research in that case. An example is the American Medical Association Journal. It's, there's an editorial board which is a panel of other physicians who review research before it's published. And this adds to again the prestige of being published in that journal and it also adds to your confidence level that this is an authentic piece of research. In some cases the press or the media operates as a peer review for example for public figures because they are peers who are able to authenticate statements. If someone makes a statement they are able to go back and insure that that is an accurate statement. This is helpful because it helps us to have a better gage on the honesty and authenticity of people's statements. So peer review is very important. It provides us with a level of assurance that what we are reading or hearing is true. And also provides prestige in certain settings in certain instances. So those are some points about the importance of peer reviews."
