on 5/16/2009 Does the exfoliation 'reduce the appearance' or actually help to get rid of them. I am 18 now and I have been getting stretch marks since I hit puberty at 11. I have them EVERYWHERE. Some old, some new. I am not that overweight, but because of genetics and thin skin I have such a problem with this. I have bought Trilastin but because you are supposed to rub it in twice a day (and since I have so many) I couldn't stick to it. Does this work to actually get rid of them? Does laser help to get rid of them? Even if I were skinny I wouldn't feel completely comfortable because a lot of my skin is scared. Does anything get RID of them and not just 'reduce the appearance'? It makes me sad because I will never have smooth, nice skin.

"Hi, my name is Keeley Selvage with Keeley Skin Solutions. I'm going to talk to you today about how to get rid of stretch marks. Now stretch marks mostly come from heredity and some experts say that you can't even really get rid of them. But I'm going to give you a few tips on how to diminish the looks of them and some of the best ways that you can take care of those stretch marks. Now first of all the best time to take care of them is when they're fresh. You know, how they get pink? You know, start then on taking care of them. Some say that Vitamin E helps and coco butter helps and really those just improves the appearance of the skin. They're not necessarily getting rid of the stretch marks. Now over the counter creams, some claim to get rid of stretch marks or even diminish them; but what happens is our stretch marks occur in the middle layer of the skin, in the dermis. Those over the counter creams do not reach the dermis. So again, they're basically making the appearance of the skin look better. So what I'm going to do is I'm going to show you a little scrub that you can do at home and what this is going to do is it's going to bring blood to the area, it's going to exfoliate the area. When you exfoliate it stimulates collagen. Collagen makes the skin pumper. So that is going to help the stretch marks to look better. Okay, so while I do this; what I've done is I've taken a little bit of raw sugar and I've mixed it with a little bit of almond oil. It doesn't seem thick enough for me, so I'm going to put a little bit more in. And you just going to apply it to the area. It's best when you do it on the shower 'cause it can get kind of messy. But we're just going to apply it to the area and rub and spend about five minutes rubbing it. So I'm going to talk to you about some of the other things that you can do. You can also do laser for stretch marks. It doesn't completely get rid of them but it is effective. One of the most effective ways that you can use to get rid of stretch marks is microdermabrasion or derma file. That is really, really works well; again, because it's a strong exfoliation, it's going to really stimulate that collagen. Start when the stretch marks are fresh or even before. If you know that you're going to have a baby, really massage and moisturize the area. My name is Keeley Selvage with Keeley Skin Solutions and that is how you get rid of stretch marks."
