Series Summary

Cave drawings uncovered in the Mesopotamian desert wilderness show women heating rocks and rubbing them on fur clothing. A recent archaeological discovery has uncovered the oldest laundromat in recorded history while excavating the ancient city of Ur. Cleverly named Laund-UR-mat, this laundromat, actually started by Abraham's youngest brother Ephraham, is historical proof that even thousands and thousands of years ago, human beings found washing clothes inconvenient and tedious and that people would rather outsource laundry than take the time to do it at home. In this free video series on laundry, an experienced mom demonstrates how to wash a few specialty clothing items. Find out how to wash bras, cashmere sweaters and wool sweaters in the sink, and get tips on washing jeans, cotton sweaters and tie-dyed t-shirts in the washing machine. Keep clothes looking great and smelling nice using this helpful housekeeping guide.

Video Transcript

"Hi, I'm Erica; we're in Salt Lake City, Utah, and I'm going to talk to you today about how to wash a bra. The first thing you need to do is make sure that you clasp the bra shut. This will help keep it from getting snagged on clothes or on the actual trim of the washer, and it get get ruined. So make sure that you always clasp your bra before you wash it. Also it's better to hand wash it. If you want save the life of your bra, that would be the best way. But, if you don't have time or you just want to wash it in the washing machine, just be sure to clasp the bra. And then to protect it you can put it in a laundry bag like this--or a lingerie bag--and just put it inside, tie it up like this. And then just make sure that it's tied up so that you can wash it. So after you put the bra in your bag, you can turn on your washer, go ahead and throw it in. Put your washer to the delicate cycle, and on cold water. And then after you do that you can just start washing it as normal. Be sure not to put it in the dryer. To have it air dry, take it out of the bag and lay it flat to dry. Do not dry it in the dryer. And if you don't have a lingerie bag, you can use a pillowcase of some sort, a pillowcase you need to wash anyway, or a clean one. Just be sure to put it in a bag."
