What Are EFC Tables?

An EFC table is used to determine what a person qualifies for, usually in grant money, in terms of financial aid. Learn about EFC, or expected family contribution, with help from a financial aid officer in this free video on student loans and financial aid.

Hi my name is Brooke Kramer and I am the financial aid officer at Argosy University in Salt Lake City and today I'm going to let you know what an EFC table is. Now what an EFC number first is is the expected family contribution and this number helps universities and schools decide what your need is for aid and schools will use a table, EFC table, to determine what you qualify usually in grant money and they will use these tables based on your EFC number to decide if you are eligible for pell and actually how much for pell grants and other grants you may be eligible for. For example, this is a chart that we use at Argosy so when we receive your EFC number, we're going to look down this chart right here. So for example if your EFC number was 1 through 100 and you were a full time undergraduate student, you would qualify for 4,681 in grant money for the full academic year. So financial aid officers and schools use this to determine how much you're going to qualify in certain loans and as well as grant money.
