Plastic Bottle Safety

"Hi, I'm Rachel Yatuzis and I'm going to tell you a little bit about plastic bottle safety. Plastic, itself, is a sanitary material. But if you want to reuse it, and many things in your house are plastic, the main thing to concentrate on to is to prevent bacteria and mildew from growing on the plastic. As you can see, on this water bottle, probably what happened in this circumstance was the lid was put on too soon, before all of the water, before it was completely dry, and it caused this black mold to grow inside, which is not something you want to ingest. The best thing to do is to clean any plastic container, whether it be this, this is two layers of plastic. Clean it with warm water and dish soap, and make sure that it is completely dry before you put it away. That way it will not harbor bacteria. Don't reuse a water bottle that's been in the heat or in the moisture for a long time, because it's already begun to grow bacteria. Water bottles, you know, you can reuse these for many things. People use 'em to sprout plants. You can use 'em for bowling pins, anything. But, as long as you wash it thoroughly and make sure that it dries completely, it will be safe to reuse again.
