Hello, I'm Dr. Deborah Wheeler. I am the vice president of academic affairs at Argosy University and I'm here at the Art Institute library in Salt Lake City. I'm also a clinical psychologist and this topic is on how to teach your child manners. This is a difficult one for most parents because they don't have opportunities to demonstrate these things for the children in public places. Make sure you take your child to a public place so that you can interact with the public and make sure that you demonstrate how to behave appropriately. Of course that means you as a parent need to make sure you're doing the right things to model for your child. Next you can always get a book on a topic that's of interest to a child that demonstrates manners. You can find these kinds of books at most libraries. You might also want to look in some of the bigger cities for a cotillions or of other kinds of etiquette classes. Many of the larger cities offer these opportunities for kids. Make sure you give your child lots of opportunities to have tea parties where they practice their manners and if you get really brave you can always take them out to dinner at a fancy restaurant and let them practice there.
