How to Teach a Child Proper Hygiene

Hello, I'm Dr. Deborah Wheeler. I am a clinical psychologist and the vice president of academic affairs at the Argosy University Salt Lake City campus. Today's topic is how to encourage good hygiene habits with your children. One of the first things you're going to want to do is to make sure you're modeling good behaviors for your children. If you take time and care in your grooming, they'll understand that that's an important aspect of daily living. You'll also want to make sure they have the right items they need to have good grooming and to make sure they're ready for their day as well. Always try to catch your child approximating or doing the kinds of behaviors you want them to do. If they're very young, you want to reward them for the time they take to brush their hair and brush their teeth. If you can do all of those things together, you're going to have a child who understands the importance of hygiene and has good habits for the rest of their life.
