"Hi friends, I'm Mark Govan here with ABC Pest Control in Largo, Florida and people have asked me what kinds of diseases do I have to worry about if I have fleas inside my home? Well there have been a lot of problems with diseases carried by fleas in the past. You all may remember the little thing called black plague, well that was carried by a flea that actually infested the rodents back in the 1800's. So those are problems that we don't normally have to worry about today but can it be a problem? Sure, it always is. Another problem is called murine typhus. Now that was another disease that, a bacteria actually, that got into people that would itch themselves and it was caused by the droppings of the flea and the actual, the castoff skins of the fleas and they would itch themselves and scratch and it would get into their system and it cost quite a few deaths in the early 1800's and early 1900's. So those are things that have happened in the past. Now do we see a lot of these today, no, but the best way to be sure that you're not having those problems is by having your home and your pets professionally treated by a certified pest control operator and a veterinarian to take care of your pet. I'm Mark Govan with ABC Pest Control in Largo, Florida helping keeping you pest free."
