Hi my name is Dave Andrews and today I am going to show you how to get your computer to boot faster. Let's go to our computer and the very first thing we are going to do is open up Microsoft Config which is called MS Config and let's just type that into the search bar here and on Windows XP you would click on the Start button and go to run and type that in. Just hit enter. On Vista you have to be an administrator so let's click continue. So here we have the MS Config, System Configuration Interface and we are interested in the start up tab. Now this is basically a list of all the Programs that want to run as our computer is booting up. This is a lot of programs and depending upon the program some of them can take a good amount of time to actually start and that is going to be using your computer's resources, it is going to use up your boot time and it is going to make your computer boot slower so to keep a program from booting when your computer starts up just uncheck it from this list right here. I would, anything that says driver I would leave that alone because they are probably necessary and you want to leave your antivirus alone as well because you want it to run. After you have got everything unchecked select apply and press o'kay. It is going to ask you if you want to restart and I don't in this particular instance because I am going to show you other things but you might want to restart here to see how much you have sped up your computer. Next let's click on our Start button and go into my computer and we are going to do a defrag. So right click on our C drive and go to Properties. We want to go to the Tools tab and click Defrag now. Now what Defragmentation is going to do is that is going to organize the files on your computer's hard drive to where they are contiguous and not broken up in different places on the hard drive. So we just want to click defragment now and let that run and that will take maybe an hour or so and that is going to clean up your hard drive quite a bit and make your computer boot faster. My name is Dave Andrews and I have just showed you how to make your computer start up faster.
