"Hi, my name is John Bosworth. I'm a licensed mental health counselor, in Saint Petersburg, Florida. I'd like to talk a little bit about how to recover from a meth addiction. There are a, there are a lot of different recovery stories out there. There's a lot of different tales that you hear of what's worked for one person, what's worked for another person. I think there's some there's some strength to some of those arguments in that we need to really find more effective ways to deal with individuals. Some individuals might deal with a psychodynamic approach better, and have more success at dealing with their addiction. Others might deal from a more directive or active approach like a cognitive behavioral, or rational emotive behavior therapy approach. I think the most important thing is to find and to try to match some of the effective strategies with individual personalities, so that people can be treated effectively and in a short time. We really want to get people off the, you know, out of the addiction phase and and onto to healing and living their lives productively. So really, the best thing to do first of all is to accept and admit that you have a problem, or that somebody; a loved one has a problem. Get the necessary help if there's been long term use. That usually might involve detox or some type of residential facility. Detoxes and residential facilities can be very effective, but in my experience and a lot lot of other cognitive behavioral therapists have found that really the best approach is once somebody is off the meth is to is to find a type of therapy or a type of support system where they can get actively involved back in their life, and that usually involves getting some kind of creative, vital, absorbing interest in order for the person to kind of fill that vacuum where that drug seeking behavior took place now they have something productive and meaningful to look forward to. So, detox can be very important, some kind of support system, but the main emphasis that I like to use with people with addictions and meth addictions is to get them back into their daily life and functioning effectively, and that usually is some type of cognitive behavior or rational emotive behavior therapy. So, those are some of the ways that we can look at to recover from meth addictions, and just recognize that there is help out there you guys. I'm John Bosworth, and I'm a licensed mental health counselor."
