"Hi, I'm John Bosworth. I'm a licensed mental health counselor, in St. Pete, Florida. I'd like to talk to you a little bit about ways to break a meth addiction. Meth addiction is very similar to any other type of addiction, but it can usually, and it's it's, in my clinical experience I've observed that it's very quick. Usually, within a few months people are highly addicted if they've used meth on a regular basis. Some of the ways that we can, that we can break the meth addiction is first of all, awareness. Let's the media seems to be doing a pretty good job of recognizing the extent of meth addiction. We hear a lot of the stories about the mid-western states, or the western states, but awareness is key. We have to know, you know, when somebody's really addicted to such a powerful stimulant as meth we have to know ways of of, you know, becoming aware of that, finding out, finding help for the person, and putting the person in touch with the right resources to to be able to break the addiction. There's there's a couple different ways of doin' that. Some detox centers and residential facilities offer really good support, and basically, a a first step in the addiction, in the addiction breaking process. But, what I like to do, and what I found is that in in working with addictions the individual really, at some point, needs to get back into their individual environment. Twelve step programs are pretty good for that. Some twelve step programs can be detrimental, because people are still using, and and somebody that's trying to get clean may have a harder time saying no in a situation where they're seeing somebody once a day or a couple times a week. What I like to do is talk to people from a cognitive behavioral perspective, and recognize that there's other things that need to be looked at and addressed in their life if they are going to successfully break a meth addiction. Treating the the addiction is fine, but we also need to look at the person's underlying philosophy. How do they look at things? How are their relationships? How are their, how is their financial situation? Addressing some of these stressors is basically a more effective approach to breaking meth addiction. I am John Bosworth. I'm a licensed mental health counselor, and just recognize you guys that there is help out there if you need it."
