Hi I'm Laura from youngwritersworkshops.com and I'm going to talk about how to improve your reading speed. There are a few strategies for improving your reading speed and your efficiency and they have to do with changing the way you scan the page and basically it is similar to when you were learning to read and you had certain site words that you memorized. You didn't have to read them you just knew their shape. So doing that with more words, starting to practice reading in a way where you have memorized words and you take them in a whole chunk so you look at the page and just begin to chunk the phrases together and move across the page quickly with your eyes. This takes some practice but you will begin and if you think about it and start telling yourself not to say the words in your head and just become accustomed to taking in whole phrases rather than word by word and you will be able to comprehend more if you begin to do that. Also the more reading you do and the more practice you have in doing this you will improve your speed and your efficiency with reading. You might want to check in with yourself every once in a while and make sure you are comprehending and make sure you are not stopped reading word by word and saying it in your head and over time as you pay attention to this technique you will become a better and faster reader.
