"Hi, my name is Eric Frischhertz. I'm a cardiologist with Capital Cardiovascular Specialists in Austin, Texas and I'm here to answer the question, what is the best cardio workout. I tell all of my patients that the best cardio workout is one that you will do consistently. So whatever type of cardiovascular exercise that you like, and you know that you'll continue to do on a regular basis, is the best type for you. In terms of what would be type of exercise, that would be beneficial for your heart, we generally speak of exercise that keeps your target heart rate between fifty to eighty percent of your maximal predicted heart rate, which is calculated by subtracting your age from the number two hundred and twenty, which gives you the maximal heart rate and then you can multiply the percentage fifty to eighty percent times that number to determine where you should be exercising. But again, the best cardiovascular exercise is one that you will do on a consistent basis."
