"Hi, my name is Eric Frischhertz, I'm a Cardiologist here in Austin, Texas with Capital Cardiovascular Specialist and I'm here to answer the question of how heart disease kills you. Generally, when people think of heart disease, they are thinking of blockage in the arteries that supply blood to the heart muscle and the most common way that a heart disease kills people is that, there are blood clots formed around plaque which are cholesterol build up in the arteries that supply blood to the heart muscle. When this plaque ruptures, there's clot formation in the vessel which occludes the blood flow so that there's no blood flow to the part of the heart at that point and the person that has a heart attack where the part of the heart that's not getting enough blood dies and generally, the patient goes into a heart rhythm that doesn't pump enough blood for the body which results in their near immediate or immediate death. And that's how heart disease kills you."
