Series Summary

The invention of "credit" as we know it was a milestone in the journey toward re-establishing an aristocracy in the United States. Historically, credit is as old as the idea of a promise and as common as opening a tab at the local bar. An economy based on credit leaves only the lenders free, and it scores individuals based on their ability to stay in debt and continually make money for lenders. The economic system of the United States, founded at the birth of the Federal Reserve, borrows money from international banking groups and itself lives on credit. In this free video series on finance, a financial manager and currency trader discusses managing credit. Find out how to access a free credit report, get information about building up good credit, and find out how to build credit for a new company. Learn about building up credit as a young adult with no credit history, and even get tips on repairing bad credit. Maintain good credit to more easily get bank loans for large purchases, such as cars and homes.

Video Transcript

"I'm Roger Groh. Today, we're going to be talking about how do you become a credit counselor. Well, each state and city has their own licensing process. The correct way to do it is to Google "credit counselors, state" and go through the licensing process that the states have set up. On thee other hand, you could informally do it. You can become quote "a counselor to credit" and you by yourself can advertise on Google and newspapers and Craigslist, whatever it might be, where you are trying to identify people that are having problems that are looking for help. Thee advantage that you might have, as opposed to a traditional counselor, you might point this out, is that you are independent and will work a hundred percent for the customer, whereas some credit counselors really work for the banks and the credit card companies and are trying to get money out of their customers to pay back their debts. So, look through the state, you can Google it, go look in the YellowPages...call your state, say how do I do it? Go through the process and that is how you become a credit counselor. I'm Roger Groh."
