Despite the stereotype of cats as solitary animals with no need for human presence, many cats have a very social relationship with their owners, providing and receiving affection on many levels. In fact, some people suggest that human owners provide a sort of surrogate mother figure for cats and kittens, and that adult domesticated cats live in a sort of extended kittenhood. Video Transcript

"How much does a Maine Coon cat weight? Maine Coon cats are one of the larger domestic species of cat. Males can run anywhere from around 10 pounds all the way up to 20 pounds. And females can go from around 7 pounds to 14 pounds. Of course, that's an average. Sometimes you'll get a little bit smaller, sometimes a little bit bigger. They also reach somewhere around 10-16 inches in height from the bottom of the paw to the shoulder. And they generally run somewhere around 40 inches long. That includes the tail, which itself can be somewhere around 14 inches long. Their builds tend to be very muscular and their body shape is very rectangular. They have a very, very broad chest, and very thick and bushy kind of fur. The Maine Coon cat has been a very, very popular breed in the United States ever since back in Colonial days when they originated in Maine. No one's quite sure where they actually came from, but that's where they first taken note of. And they've been popular ever since, especially as farm animals, since they do very, very well in cold weather as well as warm weather."
